[User contributed description]
A view of the south facade on Main Street. The building is situated at the northeast corner of Saratoga and Main Streets. City directories indicate that a grocery store/market has operated continuously at this location since at least 1931.

Cipriano Garcia was the longtime proprietor of the grocery store that operated under his name into the late 1940s. Beginning circa 1951, the business is listed in directories as the La Victoria Market and, at least initially, entries still showed Mr. Garcia as the proprietor. The La Victoria Market name continued to appear in directories through at least 2013, but at some point the store’s name was changed to La Hacienda Market as shown in the photograph.

His name is spelled “Sipriano” instead of Cipriano in a couple of the early 1930s directories and is listed at “Carlos” the 1938 directory. Marriage and U.S. Census (1930) records show his name spelled as Sipriano Garcia. According to the marriage certificate, he was born in Mexico, immigrated to the United States in 1906, and at the time of his marriage in 1926 he was a laborer living in San Fernando, California. The 1930 census records indicate that Mr. Garcia was residing at 321 Main Street in Fillmore and was the proprietor of a grocery store. Death: 1 October 1992 in Fillmore. Burial: Bardsdale Cemetery, Fillmore, Ventura County, California.
