Closeup view of a small fossilized jawbone held by two bare hands. Teeth are visible along the edge of the fossil. A tray containing rocks and other samples with labels is next to the hands. Published 8 September 1988.

Museum records indicate that the fossil was the first found of an ancient primate species. The fossil was uncovered at the Simi Valley Landfill.
