According to museum records: He was a "Ventura County pioneer who came to the county in 1869. He fought through the Civil War on the side of the Confederacy...he took up a claim of 160 acres north of Bardsdale...resided there for 33 yrs. Died there in 1902, leaving a widow, five sons and one girl. Two of the boys have since 1923 passed away. Living at that date are J. C. in this city [unknown if Ventura or Bardsdale], W.B. also living here [also unknown if Ventura or Bardsdale]. M., who lives at Stockton. The sister, Mrs. C. A. Clevenger, resides in Fremont."
