Description
A view of the Lufkin pumping unit at the Ventura Oil Fields. Description from back of photo: "This is a pumping unit which is powered by a multiple cylinder engine using natural gas for fuel. The three heavy beams shown are the strong members carrying the weight and combine to make up the part called a Sampson Post. The Sampson Post supports the walking beam and on the right hand end of the walking beam is the horse's head. Steel C Cables from the Horse's head suspend the sucker rods which operate the pump way down deep in the well."
