Description

Drilling equipment--this view is taken on the toolhouse rack and shows several pieces of equipment that are used during drilling operations. To the extreme left is a goose neck swivel from which the drill pipe hangs when it is being rotated. In the center of the picture are the blowout preventers and the control gates which are used during drilling operations to prevent a well from blowing out of control. In the right foreground are rotary tables that transmit the rotating power to the drill pipe, which in turn rotates the bit.

The boiler in the background is automatically controlled and is used like a hot water heater to supply low pressure steam and hot water for cleaning rotary equipment when it comes in from the wells.

Museum records indicate: "Ventura Field, Blowout equipment, Shaffer Pipe Rams & Annular B.O.P.S., Kelly Swivels."
