A photo of the facade of a commercial building located at 120 South Mill Street in Santa Paula, California. It is a brick building but the original appearance has been altered considerably. As depicted, the facade is coated in stucco. However, the building does have historical and cultural significance. Library records indicate that at one time the weekly publication La Voz de la Colonia as well as the Santa Paula Daily Review were housed in this building. The December 1929 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map for this section of Santa Paula labels the building as a “Printing” establishment.
Ventura County Assessor records do not provide a construction date, but the structure was built after September 1923 and before December 1929. It is not shown on the Sanborn Fire Insurance Map dated September 1923. In that year a large wood frame house was on the property spanning what are now the 120 and 122 South Mill Street addresses. The neighboring brick building at 122 South Mill Street was constructed in 1927 according to assessor records.
