An image of the south facade of a small house located at 1235 East Main Street in Ventura, California. Although originally a private residence, as it is once again, from 1931 through the early 1940s the building served as a clubhouse for the Girl Scouts. It was listed in city directories as the “Girl Scout House.”
A January 20, 1931, article in The Ventura County Star that was headlined “In New Home” announced that the “The Little House of the Ventura Girl Scouts, at 1235 East Main Street, is rapidly being put into readiness for troop activities, with many of the troops of the city spending part of their spare time helping with the decorating of the bungalow and the grounds.” Several prominent women of the era were listed as those helping with the effort, including “Mrs. Fred Mercer and Mrs. Robert Sheridan of Ventura and Mrs. Fred Smith of the Ojai.”
