A black and white bird’s-eye photographic view of the very small town of Moorpark, California in 1909. A church and possibly a school building can be seen in this view. Houses and commercial structures visible. Farmland surrounds the town. Hills visible in the distance.

This real photo postcard (RPPC) was sent by somebody living 1.5 miles outside of the town to an individual in Los Angeles.

A black and white real photo postcard (RPPC) depicting African-American boxer Sam McVey. Early in his career he trained and fought bouts in Oxnard, California. His earliest recorded fight in Oxnard took place on April 12, 1902, against George Sullivan. He KO’d (knocked out) Sullivan in the sixth round. Sam McVey, also known as “The Oxnard Cyclone,” was considered one of the great heavyweight boxers of the early 20th century and was finally inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 1999.

A postcard view depicting four men on horseback riding on a hillside trail. The man on the first horse appears to be the leader taking three other men on an excursion, possibly a hunting trip. He is followed by a pack horse carrying supplies. One man is holding a rifle in his left hand.
