Day (James Allen Day, 1828-1915), a Saticoy area rancher, investor and grocer in Ventura. The Poli Street house is one of the few extant buildings in Ventura constructed in the Stick-Eastlake style of Victorian architecture. It is located on the north side of Poli Street on parcel 72-105-04. Having achieved success in the brick manufacturing business in Wisconsin, Day moved to Ventura in 1874 where he made significant real estate investments. Mr. Day reportedly owned more than 800 acres of land in Ventura as well as an 80-acre ranch on Telephone Road east of Harmon Barranca. In partnership with three other individuals, J.A. Day built the Masonic Block on Main Street where he opened a grocery store on the ground floor.
